Volunteer Spotlight: Carol Woodward - A Journey of Giving and Connection
Within the community of Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud (MOWLB), every volunteer contributes a unique story of compassion, dedication, and community engagement. This volunteer spotlight shines brightly on Carol Woodward, a dedicated Wednesday volunteer, whose journey with MOWLB is a wonderful example of how Meals on Wheels transforms meals into meaningful moments.
A New Chapter Begins
Carol’s adventure with MOWLB began when she moved from California to Colorado. Despite not knowing her way around the town, she had a desire to drive for Meals on Wheels upon retirement. Carol decided that the best way to explore her new surroundings was to become a volunteer driver! She and a friend attended a volunteer orientation at Meals on Wheels, embarking on a journey that would not only help her navigate the streets of her new home but also the hearts of those she serves.
First Impressions and Lasting Connections
From her first day, Carol was struck by the overwhelming friendliness and support within the MOWLB community. Her initial ride-along with fellow volunteer, Jim, showcased the organization’s welcoming spirit, setting the tone for what has become nearly a decade of service. “To this day, I’ve never seen anything but happy faces around MOWLB,” Carol reflects, highlighting the positive atmosphere that fuels her commitment.
Challenges and Rewards
While Carol finds immense joy in her volunteer work, she acknowledges the growing need for more volunteers as the client list expands. This challenge, however, only strengthens her resolve to make a difference, even if it means having less time for visits, which she dearly loves.
The Heart of volunteering
For Carol, the core of her volunteering experience lies in the connections made with clients. “My people!” she fondly calls them, emphasizing the deep relationships formed through regular deliveries. Carol’s favorite moments come from the stories shared, the gratitude received, and the simple acts of kindness that extend beyond meal delivery - be it bringing in a garbage can, opening a can, or picking up a newspaper.
An Invitation to Make a Difference
Carol encourages anyone considering volunteering or donating to MOWLB to take the leap. “It’s SO rewarding,” she says, underscoring the impact of these acts of kindness on both the recipients and volunteers. With more hands on deck and resources at its disposal, MOWLB can extend its reach, touching more lives and fostering more meaningful moments.
Beyond the Volunteer
Carol’s life outside MOWLB is rich and adventurous! From her high school years in India to her current hobbies of gardening, walking, playing pickleball, and, of course, traveling, Carol embraces life with open arms. Her experiences have not only nurtured a love for travel but also a deep understanding of the diverse tapestry of human life.
A Legacy of Love and Service
After approximately 9 ½ years with MOWLB, Carol’s dedication remains unwavering. Her story shares the transformative power of volunteering, where meals become more than just food - they become bridges to meaningful human relationships. Carol Woodward embodies the spirit of MOWLB, turning every delivery into an opportunity for kindness, and every meal into a moment of joy. As she continues to serve, travel, and explore, Carol’s journey inspires us all to give back, connect deeply, and transform lives - one meal, one moment at a time.
