The Thursday Kitchen Crew Connection - Bonding Over Service
We love Thursdays at Meals on Wheels of Loveland and Berthoud (MOWLB). Our Thursday Kitchen Crew is a special group of volunteers who have found friendship and purpose in the work they do each week. This group of ladies exemplifies the social bonds that form when people unite for a meaningful cause. While they may not have direct contact with our clients, their impact is deeply felt through the nutritious meals they help prepare and the camaraderie they have shared for 17 years!
stevie c - a legacy of service
Stevie C was introduced to MOWLB 17 years ago by a friend. Her initial impression was profound: “It was great to see the level of concern for the clients and how much goes into planning the meals,” she recalls. What keeps Stevie coming back, year after year, is not just the mission but the “second family” she has found in her fellow volunteers. “It’s fun to interact with the other volunteers,” she shares, adding that hearing client feedback makes it all worthwhile.
nancy s - finding new purpose
As an empty nester seeking a meaningful outlet, Nancy S turned to MOWLB. “I was looking for a place to volunteer and found that being a kitchen volunteer was a good fit for me,” Nancy states. Over her 18 years with MOWLB, her favorite moments revolve around the weekly gatherings and the small differences they make together. Nancy likes to have a clear understanding of the MOWLB processes, and the community and purpose she finds within the organization keeps her dedicated to the mission.
diane n - a personal connection
Diane’s journey with MOWLB began through a personal need when her mother-in-law required the services. “They provide a great need to those who are homebound,” Diane reflects on her first impressions. Volunteering for 17 years, Diane values giving back to the community and cherishes the collective goal shared by her team.
cheryl a - new beginnings
After retiring from a 35-year career in long-term care, Cheryl sought new beginnings, which led her to MOWLB. Cheryl appreciates the clean and friendly environment, noting the biggest challenge is “getting enough volunteers.” For Cheryl, MOWLB is a place to “make new friends” and contribute meaningfully to the community.
Each of these volunteers brings a unique background and perspective, yet a common thread unites them: the joy of giving and the close-knit bonds formed in the kitchen and heart of MOWLB. Their stories highlight how the MOWLB mission extends beyond just delivering meals - it fosters community and connection among those who serve. As they prepare meals and share stories, these volunteers not only enrich the lives of those they serve but also each other’s.
For anyone considering joining our cause, whether through volunteering or donations, take it from our seasoned volunteers - it’s a rewarding experience that extends beyond the kitchen. As Diane puts it, “It’s a very worthy cause and rewarding feeling knowing you’re helping people in YOUR community.”
