Volunteer Spotlight: Lisa & Steven Jackson - A Dynamic Duo Making a Difference!

For Lisa and Steven Jackson, volunteering with Meals on Wheels for Loveland and Berthoud (MOWLB) is more than just a commitment - it’s a way of life. Since 2007, they’ve been giving back to their community as a team, making a lasting impact from day one.

Their journey with MOWLB began in 2007, when Lisa’s employer, HP, participated in a “Make a Difference Day” event. Lisa brought Steven along to help rake leaves for a MOWLB client who could no longer do the strenuous work, and the experience made a lasting impact. “She was so grateful, and it touched my heart,” Lisa recalled. From that moment, the couple was hooked on the mission of Meals on Wheels.

Impressed by MOWLB’s Dedication

The Jacksons were immediately struck by the dedication of the MOWLB team and volunteers. “MOWLB does incredible things for their clients,” says Lisa. “Everyone goes out of their way to provide not just meals, but contact, care, and compassion. It’s an incredible organization.” Steven echoes her sentiment, adding, “I admire how much work everyone puts in daily to get so much done in such a short amount of time.”

Challenges and Rewards

While they appreciate the work being done, both Lisa and Steven recognize the challenges MOWLB faces, especially when it comes to securing the necessary funding for the growing need. “Finding the funding needed to support the ever-changing budget is tough,” says Steven, but they both agree that MOWLB does a fantastic job of fundraising and managing these demands.

The Joy of Volunteering

For Lisa and Steven, the relationships they’ve built are the heart of their volunteer experience. “The people,” Lisa says simply, referring to volunteers, staff, and clients. “The conversations are wonderful, and many clients have such interesting backgrounds,” adds Steven, who also enjoys the friendships they’ve made through MOWLB.

Words Of Wisdom

Their advice to those considering volunteering or donating to Meals on Wheels? “Just do it!” says Steven enthusiastically. Lisa agrees, adding, “Don’t hesitate! MOWLB is a great place to volunteer.”

A Life of Giving Back

Beyond their work with MOWLB, Lisa and Steven are active in many other ways. Lisa started volunteering at the age of 11 and has since given her time to a variety of organizations, including Hospice and the City of Loveland’s Snow Squad. Steven, in addition to volunteering, brings friends to Big Thompson Manor to play music for residents. “Music and more music,” is how Steven describes his life when he’s not volunteering, as he plays in two bands. Lisa enjoys gardening, spending time with their dogs and grandchildren, and exploring the mountains through hiking and travel.
